The Improbable Equilibrium · Companion Reading
Companion Reading in the Corpus
The Improbable Equilibrium is a narrative synthesis. It carries no inline citations by design; instead, every chapter is traceable here to the specific analytical documents in the Mauritius corpus that it draws upon. Those documents hold the full primary-source citations, the contested-record detail, and — as the verification campaign proceeds — their fact-check status. Read them for the evidence behind the story.
On verification. As of this edition, the source documents are largely
[DRAFT]and carry open[TBD-VERIFY]tags. This book inherits those hedges rather than resolving them. Fact-check audits, when filed, live undermauritius/docs/factcheck/.

The source canon
The scholarly and documentary foundation for the whole book is catalogued in:
- MU-R-01: Mauritius Governance Books Canon — the major histories, official records, and academic monographs (among them Selvon's history of Mauritius, Bowman, Eriksen on plural society, Bräutigam and Diolle on the developmental state, and the Chagos literature of Vine and Sands) that ground every chapter above.
Planned companions (not yet written)
Two contested-record documents are planned in the Mauritius taxonomy but not yet written; when they exist, they will deepen the named-attribution treatment this book gives to two questions:
- MU-J-01: Chagos — the Mauritian and UK accounts side by side.
- MU-J-02: The 2022–2024 phone-tap scandal — three accounts.
Until then, Chapters 4 and 6 source those debates from the E-block documents above.
